After a hearty breakfast bade farewell to Carl and Anne-Marie (who will be joining us in Willingen next weekend) and set off:

Followed the satnav but took a wrong turn and ended up on the opposite side of a motorway to what was inteneded - heading to Brussels.  Finally left the motorway and ended up weaving through various small towns in the Brussels commuter belt before finally heading to Antwerp.  Had lunch in a truckers' diner near Breda:

Refrreshed we headed on after switching the sat nav to 'avoid motorways' - which may have helped if I had set it like that after breakfast. Rode through interesting Dutch countryside in the early afternoon and across bridges over some sizeable rivers.  Had a rest 40 minutes from the destination when we couldn't ride any more.  Continued on through lovely forest and cooler air and arrived at our lodgings for the night.  Our room was in a block in the woods on the first floor with a tight spiral stair (more like a ladder) - haven't seen anything like it since my potholing/speleology days.

Had a shower and inspected the much referred to 'English Bar' - and found a couple of 'Holy Grails' of excellent Bavarian Lager !

Strangely the bar also sported a two-lane bowling alley.  After 2 pints of Bavaria's best each, the prospect of dropping a ball on our feet detered us from playing.

Had a fine dinner, a couple of digestifs (bourbon) and climbed the spiral ladder to our room without mishap - amazingly.

Distance travelled: 150 miles plus about 20 for 'unintentional detours'
